MySpace Social Networking Tips

myspace.gifA few weeks ago, I wrote about using MySpace as a social networking tool. I got many replies from people who use MySpace and others who just hate it.

After allowing myself a few weeks to use it as a social network and test the waters, I must say I think MySpace is just as great of a tool as FaceBook. For the last month I have worked to connect with fellow home business owners and wahm’s. Not to mention, I joined some groups and participate in conversations.

I was able to connect with many people who like me, are business minded and open to learning new ways to market their business. So, my trial worked, the traffic picked up here, I have had many inquiries about advertising, and have got to chat with some great people in the home business field.

If you are not using MySpace as a professional tool, I highly recommend you give it a try. You have nothing to lose as it does not cost anything to use the social network.

I do have some great pointers for MySpace users, who want to use it for business.

  1. Do not go overboard with your layout. You may think it is cute to have glitters every where and music, but a professional or business minded individual interested in your products or service is not going to find it amusing. Your profile is representing your business, so keep that in mind while selecting a MySpace layout to use.
  2. Have 2 MySpace accounts. One for business and one for family & friends. Make your business profile professional and do what you wish with your personal one.
  3. Keep it personal. Take the time to email people who add you as a friend, let them know a bit about you and encourage networking together. When people realize you are a real person, not just a spammer, they will want to talk with you to learn more.
  4. Do not add to may graphics. You want your profile on MySpace to load fast. The more you add, the slower it will load. Many people will not wait around to see what you can offer. (I admit, slow loading profiles tick me off, and I leave)
  5. Create your own group. Create a group on a topic you are interested in. Others will join and open the doors to more networking for your business.

Keep in mind while using MySpace as a social networking tool that you want to attract like-minded individuals.

MySpace got me…But it works for marketing!

myspace-logo.jpgI never thought I would every take the time to open a MySpace account. MySpace is for teens right? Well at least I have always thought so and never second guessed using MySpace as a social network for business.

Last week I was reading an article about a man who has built his entire business using MySpace and was so inspired, I figured I would head on over and check things out again. I was actually shocked to find many business profiles, actors, and professional people on MySpace. “It is not just for kids any more” I thought to myself as I rushed to find out how to create my own page and profile.

I know MySpace traffic blows FaceBook out of the water and has for ever, but I was finally ready to take a chance and see how it worked. What did I have to loose but the hour it took me to register and create a profile.

So I ended up spending some time looking to see who all was and was not on MySpace, and damn it looks like half the world is there! So, apparently I have been missing the social networking (web 2.0) boat over at MySpace.

There were several areas I found interesting and found some things that bugged the heck out of me. But overall, it has been pretty neat and I have saw a NICE jump in traffic to this very blog from MYSPACE! I am currently working on connecting with work at home moms and woman in business, but will be looking to connect with network marketers, and other home business professionals.

So for the next month I will be running some trials over at MySpace to see exactly how much a business can benefit from the social networking.

Now, on a professional note…I found some VERY annoying profiles!

  • Many had music that I found to be a real turn off. My reasoning behind that is…. If you are using MySpace to market your business, your taste in music is NOT going to appealing to everyone. I would highly suggest anyone who is using MySpace for business, dump that music!
  • Many profile pages loaded so slow I said heck with it and moved on to the next profile. They were loaded with graphics and glitters that may be cute to some, but will not appeal to everyone, and for the sake of load time….They are a horrible idea! If you are “pimping your profile” you may be loosing allot of contacts!

If you are using MySpace to connet with family & friends and also for business, I highly recommend you have two myspace pages! One that is professional and one for your friends and family only.

How many of you are using MySpace right now? Have you noticed any increase in website traffic or your contacts? Send me you feedback on using MySpace for business,. even if you hated it!

For those of you who use MySpace, leave me a link to your profile and lets connect!
