This statement from AmeriPlan’s own website tells it all:
“Of all the Independent Business Owners who actively market the AmeriPlan discount programs for at least one year, only one in 10 (10%) advance to Senior Regional Sales Director, or above, and are eligible to earn override commissions.”
Now, mind you, this is talking about those who “actively market” the program for at least one year. Just before this statement, they say that over 78% of the members are not actively marketing the plan and are only members. So, of the 22% who ARE actively marketing the plan, only 10% of those make any commissions. Makes ya think.
It appears to be a tough plan to make any income with.
Just my opinion from what I’ve seen.

I have decided to remove all of my prior comments and re-approach this conversation with you.
That is correct, only 10% advance to Senior Regional Sales Director. That is a level with the company that takes dedication to achieve. Not everyone jumps right into a home business and moves at lightening speed (even though they may want to). Achieving RSD is one level people normally get to pretty quick, however the next level does require work and consistency. Most of the leaders will help a newbie make their RSD as much as possible during their training. Some times that means helping them close on sales or recruit. Some other leaders may offer leads to someone new in the business.
Obviously, it is in their best interest to have as many RSD’s on their team as possible, so they can qualify to move up within the company.
78% of our members are just members, not independent business owners. They use the benefits and have no interest in the business. All companies need customers to stay in business.
ANYONE who markets the benefits gets paid for ever piece of business that is put onto the books. It does not matter what level you are at, you do get paid for every new plan sold or new team member. Override commissions are for Senior Regional Sales Directors who earn a % of what their entire team does.
Let me cover a few levels…
A Regional Sales Director must have 4 active first level IBOs and 6 active members on their 1st level. Regional Sales Directors are paid for every thing they put on the books.
A Senior Regional Sales Director must have 3 active first level Regional Sales Directors. At this “rank” you earn your base commissions and overrides. Overrides= a % of what your team does.
Now, many people join AmeriPlan and run with the business and earn income every way possible. (marketing the benefits & recruiting) Others come in to the business and are not comfortable recruiting and only market the benefits. As with any MLM company, the guys who make the most money do both, but you can have a good AmeriPlan business and only focus on the membership side of the business.
My husband and I joined AmeriPlan several years ago and when we joined we worked to market the benefits for the first few years.
Since we were involved with another company and had a team to manage, we did not want another team and we only worked to promote the service AmeriPlan offers. Many people need the benefits from AmeriPlan and it makes it easy to market, in my opinion.
We did not receive override commissions, only straight commission on what we were selling. That was fine with us. We did elect to receive advanced commissions, so we were paid upfront commissions on every new piece of business we had. We do receive residual income as well.
Getting 10-20 new members a month is easy IF YOU put the internet to work for you. For a newbie into the business, I would say 5 new members a month is easy to do. If someone who joins our team, will take the time to go through training and follow the steps we teach, they do very well with the company.
I think the business is easy, perhaps becuase I do have experience in network marketing. Most of my team members who had never had a home business caught on pretty quick and were also able to use the internet to get their business going.
It does not get much easier than that. Unlike selling vitamins or other goods (which we did), a service based company will always do well as long as people need the service.
When my husband and I 1st got started in network marketing we were with a “wellness company”. Our retention rate was horrible, (which I know why now), and we did elect to move on and try other things. We tried a few other companies and none really “hit the spot”, I mean we were able to make money but we HATED the company. When you work with a company you are not 100% behind, it makes your job stick.
We were introduced to AmeriPlan by a National Vice President and were immediately interested, because I was tired of selling products and my husband was tired of working so much and getting no where. I though a service based company would be a good business to be in, because people will always use services.
We have had luck with AmeriPlan. Our business can grow allot more, I hope to have our business triple by next year at this time.
Does everyone have success with AmeriPlan? No, not everyone who joins AmeriPlan has success. But, as with any home business, not everyone who joins a business will be successful.

Tara,
Thank you for your explanation and I wish you the best of luck in your business.
One word of caution is - take your commissions “as earned”. In the course of talking with you over the past few days I did some research and asked some questions of some of my business acquaintances. What I found is that a lot of people who are now successful in other companies were at one time with companies like this that pay advance commissions.
They got burned really bad because once the people that they signed up in the program found out that they only had to show their discount card to the doctor once, they just stopped the program and kept getting the discounts. The person who got the advance commissions on them owed all of the remaining months back to the company and it became a vicious circle of them trying to “outsponsor the attrition rate” as we call it in MLM.
Any business has attrition. MLM has a higher attrition rate than anywhere else. There’s only one thing that I’ve seen that alleviates that problem. That is education and building relationships with people before they join your business.
For example, in the past 2 years, I have not “pitched” even one person on my business. I rarely even talk about my business. I let people get to know ME, the person first and then when they feel like they know me, they call me and ask me what I do and if they can join my business.
MLM is filled with rejection because many so-called trainers teach people rejection filled methods of building their business. Anytime you have to go out and seek people to join your business, you are setting yourself up for a high attrition rate. When you have a company giving you advance commissions, that pulls you in so deep that you can’t get out without losing a lot of money.
This is not meant to be mean, sarcastic, snotty or anything. Sometimes tonality does not come across in writing. This is simply meant to be a caution for anyone accepting advance commissions in any company. I’ve seen this happen way too many times in companies giving advance commissions.
Yes - they can be a good thing at the beginning, however, even the “big dogs” of MLM have less that 1/2 of the people they sponsor stick around for more than 3 months. 3 months seems to be the industry average. So if you are getting 6 months advance commissions, you owe 3 months back to the company on the 1/2 of people who will not continue past 3 months. If your retention rate is higher than that, that’s wonderful, however, once you start building a large group, you will see the attrition.
Don’t take my word for any of this - do the research yourself. Everyone can go to http://www.google.com and find high producers in MLM and ask them what their attrition rates are. Anyone can find out what the industry average is for attrition.
EVERY person in MLM has attrition. No one is immune to it. It’s a fact of this business. Take that into consideration when accepting advance commissions from any company. The only reason companies like to pay advance commissions is because they can suck you in. If you owe the company a couple hundred dollars, you can’t really quit, can you? What happens if that number becomes a couple thousand dollars?
My advice is still the same for anyone looking at ANY company. Don’t EVER blindly trust what anyone (me included) says. Do your own research and make sure it’s the right decision for YOU.
This is not an attack on AmeriPlan or Tara. It’s simply my point of view on companies that pay advance commissions and what I know to have happened to some of my friends and business acquaintances.
Have a wonderful day!!

This is the first time I have ever heard of people only having to show the card one time and then quitting. I am going to have to check into that. I am not sure how it would be possible though, as each party is assigned a number. I would think that if they went to get a prescription and their account was not active, that it would not work. I am going to look into that some more and see what I can find out.
I really like advanced commissions. I do know several people who get “as earned”, but I really like to get the big chunk. AmeriPlan does not advertise advanced commissions, it is something you have the option to do once you get started.
It does have it’s positives and negatives. It is great for people who just get started, because when they start to see checks it excites them and motivates them to keep going. Most of my teams does elect for advanced commissions.
The downside as you said is, if someone quits, you do owe any advance back that was canceled. Any monies owed are deducted from your next check.
