MySpace got me…But it works for marketing!
I never thought I would every take the time to open a MySpace account. MySpace is for teens right? Well at least I have always thought so and never second guessed using MySpace as a social network for business.
Last week I was reading an article about a man who has built his entire business using MySpace and was so inspired, I figured I would head on over and check things out again. I was actually shocked to find many business profiles, actors, and professional people on MySpace. “It is not just for kids any more” I thought to myself as I rushed to find out how to create my own page and profile.
I know MySpace traffic blows FaceBook out of the water and has for ever, but I was finally ready to take a chance and see how it worked. What did I have to loose but the hour it took me to register and create a profile.
So I ended up spending some time looking to see who all was and was not on MySpace, and damn it looks like half the world is there! So, apparently I have been missing the social networking (web 2.0) boat over at MySpace.
There were several areas I found interesting and found some things that bugged the heck out of me. But overall, it has been pretty neat and I have saw a NICE jump in traffic to this very blog from MYSPACE! I am currently working on connecting with work at home moms and woman in business, but will be looking to connect with network marketers, and other home business professionals.
So for the next month I will be running some trials over at MySpace to see exactly how much a business can benefit from the social networking.
Now, on a professional note…I found some VERY annoying profiles!
- Many had music that I found to be a real turn off. My reasoning behind that is…. If you are using MySpace to market your business, your taste in music is NOT going to appealing to everyone. I would highly suggest anyone who is using MySpace for business, dump that music!
- Many profile pages loaded so slow I said heck with it and moved on to the next profile. They were loaded with graphics and glitters that may be cute to some, but will not appeal to everyone, and for the sake of load time….They are a horrible idea! If you are “pimping your profile” you may be loosing allot of contacts!
If you are using MySpace to connet with family & friends and also for business, I highly recommend you have two myspace pages! One that is professional and one for your friends and family only.
How many of you are using MySpace right now? Have you noticed any increase in website traffic or your contacts? Send me you feedback on using MySpace for business,. even if you hated it!
For those of you who use MySpace, leave me a link to your profile and lets connect!

I’ve been working-out marketing from myspace since last month. Check out my page : http://www.myspace.com/dikmal
Still in beta test, but so far, the result makes me smile all day out.
Yes it do drag lots and lots of traffic to websites. Especially, when I ‘accidentally’ drop out bulletin at bulletin sections.

I have also been under the impression that My Space is only for the young ones. Really interested in your comments and thank you for sharing.

I have a Myspace page, but don’t use it because I spend more time in Facebook. The main success in social sites depends on your relationship with other people around you, not just which has the more traffic! Best of success!

Myspace works great for creating relationships. Once you do that (socially network) without screaming at people and trying to shove your “deal” down their throats, they will click your links or ask about what you do if they like you.
People do business with people they know, like and trust. Once you create that relationship, they begin to know, like and trust you.
If you go in there screaming about your business and how great it is, people will run away and delete you.

This is exactly why I stay away from MySpace. Intrusive blaring music, which half the time you can’t even turn off. Ugly, UGLY layouts and huge files that take 3 minutes to load.
It is a perfect example of why you DON’T want your teenage cousin to do your web site.

I guess I been missing out a lot of stuff also. I did create an account with myspace before and just never log in back… can’t even remember the account name. I have always stick with friendster because most of the friends were there.. but when I started blogging.. i think i need to venture out other places for social networking.
thanks for the info.

I agree completley! AS long as you market smart, I think it can work well. At least from what I have found so far. I do not have any ad’s on my page, just a bio about me and my blog. People will feel like they connect with me as a mother, business owner, and entrepreneur, from there will want to know more and visit my web address.

I agree, there are some annoying profiles. I have left many due to the music or the horrible slow load time, however it is a HUGE market for networking. Oprah is on MySpace for petes sake. MySpace is full of celebs, ect.
Social networking is all about developing new relationships and contacts. So far, I have been able to connect with some amazing women in business and getting to know many more.
As I said before I was shocked to actually find myself enjoying MySpace as a social network.

I use facebook as well, however do find that searching is much easier on MySpace than on Facebook. When I am looking to find people with similar interests. Do you agree with that?
