Five Reasons to Work from Home
Working from home is a great idea if you are motivated enough to keep yourself on track. Too many people fall by the wayside because they fail to treat their work at home job like a real job. It does not matter if you work from home with a company who pays you hourly or if you have a home based business of your own.
Working from home can be fun and rewarding if you make yourself a plan and stick with it. Staying motivated is a big key to work at home success. Once you begin making a decent income you will find yourself getting hooked on work. It is important to remember that you must set limits on your work time and family time. You must have a good balance of both if you are going to remain happy in your life.
Here are 5 amazing reasons everyone needs to work from home…
1. Working from home is great for the person who hates to get up each morning and get dressed. When working from home you can stay in your pajamas all day if you like, but you should keep in mind that this might be detrimental to your production.
If you fail to get dressed you may feel that you can slack off since nobody is going to see you anyway. If you find yourself not being productive because you just are not in the working mood one way to overcome this problem is to put on some comfortable clothing and maybe even apply some light mineral makeup, so that you feel like you are actually working instead of having a pajama party.
2. You will save money on commuting. With the price of fuel today this could amount to a substantial savings. You won have to have the daily hassle of rush hour traffic and you will save wear and tear on your car. Saving commute time can help you become more productive with your work time at home.
3. Get a tax break by turning one room of your house into an office or workspace. The IRS will allow you a tax deduction for the room, a portion of your utility bills, and any equipment you use for your business can be depreciated over a several year period. The only catch is this room is supposed to be used only for business. If you were to get an unexpected visit from the IRS they might want to see the room where you do your business. If you have toys all over the room where you are running an accounting business it could get sticky.
4. Spend more time with your family. In many work from home jobs you will be able to choose the hours you wish to work and if you have your own home business, you still get to pick your own hours! This is especially true if your business is done on your computer. When running a brick and mortar store you have to stay open during the hours when people are up doing business. With a work at home computer business you can automate your system to run at times when you are not even home. This gives you additional time you can spend with the kids or more time for family outings.
I think this is my favorite part about working from home! I work when I feel like it and can keep up with my busy family!
5. You can give yourself a raise any time you want…. This is soooo turn! if you have your own home business, to give yourself a raise, all you have to do is dedicate more time to your business!
You can put some extra effort into your job and earn extra money. They key to earning the max possible with a home based business is learning your product or service 100%, completing all training offered that can help you advance within your business and keeping a “Go Getter” attitude!

“If you fail to get dressed you may feel that you can slack off since nobody is going to see you anyway.”
That is exactly how I feel! I work from home and never have I worked in my pajamas. If I’m not dressed I don’t feel productive enough to get everything I need to do, done.

I have been working from home for more than 5 years and I would never go back to working for someone else and I would never want to work away from home again.
I find that I wake up without an alarm, at about 5am every day, whereas when I was working for others, even though I enjoyed working, I just never really wanted to get out of bed.
I tried working in my underwear and that was just plan creepy. I think I lasted about 10 minutes if that long.
I always dress, just not as spiffy as I would if I worked outside the home. I take walks every day and that is something I never did when I worked outside the home. There just weren’t enough hours in the day to stay healthy.
It’s great to have a three minute commute to the office.
My wife has a job she has had for almost 30 years and she won’t quit even though she doesn’t need to work now. She just wants to complete that full 30 years for bragging rights.
When she retires we will both have laptops and that’s when our traveling career starts. I can hardly wait.
The only thing I would point out is to NOT quit your day job for the sake of working from home. The situation where I last worked became unbearable and so I did quit my day job and I also swore never to work for anyone else ever again.
I quit out of anger and paid dearly for the first year trying to get my marketing legs. It was only stubbornness that kept me hanging in long enough to start earning a living.
As for giving myself a raise by dedicating more time I think it’s better to just work smarter. Always learn new things and drop the unproductive things and you will earn more money with less work.

I’ve worked primarily from home for the last 12 years and even if I’m not planning on going out, I always get up and get ready for the day. You never know what is going to come up and you need to be prepared.

I totally agree. Working from home had many perks. But, the key is to SELF motivated. If you do not have that, there is no way you could make it work.

I have those days when I just do not feel like getting dressed and the funny this is, when I have those days I get way less done! I am not very productive when I am in my PJ’s all day. I just want to lounge around all day!

I agree totally. I even put on a little makeup. I wrote a three part article on a similar subject back in April. http://houseofluxe.com/2008/04/15/image-improvement-place-and-image-you-posses-and-project-part-2/
