Squidoo Tutorial #2
Yesterdays Squidoo Tutorial #1, explained how to get a Squidoo lens started and today we will explain how to get your content added and how to put the Squidoo modules to work for you!
If you followed yesterdays Squidoo Tutorial, you have already got your Squidoo account opened and new lens started. Go ahead on over to Squidoo and login. Once you have logged in, it will display your lens dashboard.
Find the lens name you started and click on EDIT and your lens will open.

Once opened click the add modules tab.
.
You want to click on text /write module at least 5 times to give you 5 text modules for your content. Click save and you will be taken back to your main dashboard for your lens.
Your first place to edit will be your introduction. Click edit and get to typing! Your intro should be 2-3 paragraphs, it should include a nice image that clearly presents what the lens is about and the content should encourage the reader to continue their discovery of the rest of the lens. Make sure you use keywords in your into and try not to make it to long.
You can upload a picture as well to your intro. Once you are done, click save and lets move to the content modules.
Each text/write module will have an edit button. When clicked it will allow you to add a title, sub-title and text. Use the title and sub-tile to briefly explain what your content will be about and again, use some keywords!
After you have filled out at least 3-4 text modules, you can add some fun modules as well.
You have allot of options for modules, you can add text lists, ebay auctions, cafepress merchandise, flicker photos, RSS, YouTube videos, polls, guestbooks, even amazon products. With all modules that sell items, you will earn a commission on all products sold from your lens.
I typically add CafePress, Amazon, a guestbook and a poll to each lens of mine.
A Quick Break Down For Popular Module’s
- YouTube- The YouTube module is a slick and easy way to feature videos on your lens.
- Guestbook- Allows your visitors to leave comments.
- eBay- Allows you to display auctions that either you select or selected based on your keywords.
- CafePress- You can let CafePress pick your items, display them live, and automatically update the products based on your tags or you can specify which products to show.
- Amazon- The exact same as the CafePress module but for Amazon products.
- Flicker Photos- Allows you to display photos based on tags you select that automatically update.
Since you have your content modules filled in, go and and have some fun adding different modules to your lens. The poll module allows you to select a question and answers. This gets your viewers participating in your lens and makes it fun!
When you are ready to add additional modulus, click on the add button again and select each oen you wish to show. Save them and then go edit them to select the products you want to be shown.
When you are done publish your lens! Once it is published people can then visit it and you can start working on traffic to the lens.
Try and update your lens at least 1-2 times per week with new content to keep your viewers coming back and to offer more content for search engines. If you create a lens and never promote it or never update it, you will have wasted your time.
A Few Tips:
- You can use the text/write module to add banners to your own site or to affiliate sites.
- You can add links to your favorite sites by clicking on add modules, click Search A-Z, select the letter L and then select the Link List Module.
- Play around with the different modules and add what you think your visitors will like to see.
Tutorial #3 will offer advanced tips for making your lens popular and ideas on promoting your new lens!

Nice tutorial. I’m not sure how much deeper you will be going into Squidoo. I just wanted to mention I do a 30 Day Marketing Blog and last month our marketing tools was Squidoo. So there’s quite a lot of information on how to use Squidoo to make money.
